"Sam" Hammond
November 10, 1947 – August 18, 2012
William Samuel Hammond, 64, of Effingham, SC, died August 18, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late Edward William and Allene Hanna Hammond. After graduating from McClenaghan High School in 1966, Sam joined the U.S. Army where he served in the military police for four years. He then earned a degree in nursing and served as a registered nurse in U.S. Air Force for an additional four years. Sam continued to work in health care until his retirement in 2009. At the time of his death, he was employed by Florence County as an Environmental Officer. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Linda Dease Hammond of Effingham. Sons, William Samuel Hammond, Jr. and Casey Hammond, both of Maryland, Bradley Hammond of Arkansas. Daughter, Sumar Morrison of Arkansas. Step-son, Corey Lewis Stokes of Charlotte. Brother, Joe (Judy) Hammond of Florence. Two sisters, Pat Hammond, Ft. Mill, SC and Becky Butler of Rincon, Ga.; and three grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. Sat. Aug. 25 at Lebannon Free Will Baptist Church, 7005 FriendField Rd., Effingham, SC.
