William R. Newman, Jr., 85, of Smithfield, NC, formerly of Florence, SC passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Mr. Newman was born in Sumter, SC a son of the late William R. Newman and Florence McDonald Newman. Bill attended Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church while in Florence and Bethel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC, and had been a salesman for building supplies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Owens Newman; sister, Susan Newman Enlow; brothers, Michael Newman and David Wayne Newman.

Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Newman Yarborough (Edwin); granddaughter, Ashley Yarborough Luckett (Jason); great-grandson, Alexander Jameson Hawthorne (Mira); sisters-in-law, Deborah Newman and Valerie Newman; brother-in-law, Doug Enlow; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 pm Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum followed by entombment.
