Obituary

A private memorial service for Dr. William Neavitt Henderson, husband of Sarah McLendon Henderson, will be held by the family. Dr. Henderson, 86, died peacefully Monday, February 9, 2009. He was born May 6, 1922, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Ralph and Norma Henderson. Dr. Henderson served in the Army while attending Duke University Medical School as well as in Korea as an Army physician. Dr. Henderson integrated his love of travel with his medical career. He especially loved serving the South Pacific Island of Yap as sole physician to the population-working for the US Trust Territory. This enabled him to pursue his passions for shell collecting, diving and travel to the Orient. His medical career spanned 52 years including positions in Tulsa, OK, Santa Cruz, CA, Moscow, ID and the Florida Keys. Dr. Henderson was a hobbyist extraordinaire including photography, wood working, stained glass, painting, koi ponds, and intricate model airplanes. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: children, Sallie Henderson Shreck, Carol Henderson Wycoff, William N. Henderson, Jr., Sandie Henderson Sardon, Jamie Henderson Varela; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
