Obituary

William Werner Ege, Jr., 89, of Florence, SC, died on Friday, November 27, 2015, at the Heritage Home in Florence. Born in Chicago, IL, Bill was the son of the late William Werner and Carolyn Opdahl Ege, Sr. He is also predeceased by his wife, Helen Elaine Williams Ege and a sister, Carol Sikkema. Bill was a veteran of the US Navy and attended Swarthmore College in a V-12 program for officers training and engineering during WWII. He earned his BA in engineering at Carnegie Technical Institute and was in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was an electrical engineer for Hotpoint, Honeywell, Essexwire, Struthers-Dunn and Newco of Florence. He was a member of the Optimist Club, the Toastmasters, and was also a member of Church Council for Cross and Crown Lutheran Church and was later a member of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word of Florence. He loved golf, swimming, biking, daily crossword puzzles, and playing the violin. He is survived by two sons, Larry (Bella) Ege of Skokie, IL and John Ege of Florence; two daughters, Bonnie (Lawrence) Kramer of Burr Ridge, IL and Karen (Christian) Sorrell of Lexington, KY.; granddaughters, Betsy Kramer, Jill Kramer and Maria Bouche; grandsons, Matthew, Paul, Peter and Mario Felice; and great grandsons, Salvatore, Isaiah and Ryan. A memorial service was held in Lexington, KY on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. The family will hold a private burial with immediate family at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC.
