William "Bill" Donald Decker, 89, of Florence, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017. He was born in Shiloh, PA, a son of the late Milton Andrew Decker and Esther Metzel Decker. He is predeceased by, in addition to his parents, three brothers, Milton Mitzel Decker, Ray Ellis Decker and Milton Andrew Decker, and a grandchild, Andrew David Decker. Bill joined the US Navy at age 17 where he met his best friend, Fred White. He went to Fred's home in Florida where he met his wife, Norma, the love of his life. They were married in 1949 and had three children, David, Donna and Mary Jane. Bill attended Auburn University and became a mechanical engineer, which he enjoyed immensely and considered one of his major accomplishments. He loved woodworking, making furniture, building small houses and additions and helping his family and neighbors. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma Rutherford Decker; one son, William David Decker (Laura) of Hartsville; two daughters, Donna Kay Stafford and Mary Jane Goodson of Florence; a sister, Phyllis Arlene Byer and a brother, Gene Randall Decker; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 12, 2017, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House.
