A funeral service for Wilbur R. "Bill" Thames, husband of Edna Hewitt Thames,will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Greenwood Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Gay. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00-8:00 at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, 2401 Claussen Road, Florence, SC 29505. Mr. Thames, 87, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Bethea Baptist Health Care. He was born August 23, 1920, in Clarendon Co., SC to the late Ross Bateman and Eunice Corbett Thames. Mr. Thames was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Don Hucks SS Class. When he moved to Pee Dee Gardens he formed and taught a SS Class. He was owner/operator of W. R. Thames Sales, Inc. a Tom's Snack Food Distributor, retiring in 1994 after 58 years. He served in the Army Airborne WWII. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: son, W. Ross (Sharon) Thames Jr of Florence; grandchildren, Russell Flynn Thames of Asheville, NC and Walter Hewitt Thames of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren, Muiryeal Thames and Makyziah Thames.
