EFFINGHAM, S.C. -- Velva Jean Powell, 59, of Effingham, SC, died on Thursday, July 23, 21015, at Regency Hospital in Florence. She was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late William Eugene and V. Jeannine Montrose Powell. She is survived by her son, Eric Powell of Florence; one sister, Renee Powell and one brother, William Powell, both of Effingham; two nieces, Danielle Powell of Timmonsville and Jennifer Powell of Effingham; three nephews, Blake Powell, Chris Powell and Jason Powell of Effingham; and a special friend, Brenda Smith of Effingham. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church, 7001 Friendfield Road, Effingham, SC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The family has requested a single yellow rose if you desire to send flowers.
