Obituary

Trebee Gaskins, born October 22, 1937, to Beaufort Rexford and Daisy Poston Gaskins, peacefully entered her heavenly home on April 30, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family at her bedside.

On May 17, 1955, Trebee married the love of her life, Gerald "Bud" Gaskins. For 65 beautiful years, their marriage was a living love story—always heart to heart, an unwavering example of devotion that deeply inspired their children and grandchildren.

Trebee lived a life of service and love. She worked for many years at Campbell Soup, lovingly cared for her grandchildren during their early years, and later nourished countless students in the cafeteria at Sumter High School. Feeding others was one of her truest joys—no one ever left her home hungry. She was famous for her homemade bread and her unmatched cooking, but even more so for the warmth and care she poured into every meal and every moment.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Norman Gaskins and Nelson Gaskins, and her cherished daughter-in-law, Vicky Mincy Gaskins, who she considered more like a daughter. Trebee was the proud grandmother of six beloved grandchildren: Lesa Mosier (Rod) of Summerton, SC; Sara Thompson (Benji) of Alcolu; David Gaskins (Stacey) of Florence; Danielle Hodge (Mitch) of Florence; Stormy Smith (Morgan) of Woodruff; and Abby Ellis of Sumter. Her love extended even further to her sixteen great-grandchildren, Addison (Randy), Drake, Bella Grey, Gauge, Ethan, Aiden, Ansley, Ivy, Lindon, Reece, Jax (whose arrival was anxiously awaited), Mason, Charlie, William, and Caroline, a great great-grandchild, Boston who were the delight of her life.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Clebe Eaddy of Florence; a number of nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Angela Thompson Latimer and Debbie Eaddy; and a wonderful nephew, Wayne Matthews, who loved and doted on her from childhood through adulthood—they were faithfully by her side.

Trebee was preceded in death by her loving husband Bud, her parents, her daughter Sherrie—who surely met her at Heaven's gate with arms wide open—and her siblings: Pete Gaskins, Tim Gaskins (Dianne), Toby Gaskins, Tony Gaskins, Rebe Lyerly, Debe Miles, and Bebe Thompson (Rudolph).

Among those she reunited with in Heaven was her infant grandson, Jason DeLeon Gaskins, who is undoubtedly now rocked gently in her arms. A joyful greeting came from her great-grandson, Will, who likely grabbed her by the hand, fishing pole in tow, ready to show her the best bream holes in paradise—grinning ear to ear as he told her he could finally eat all he wanted, because there's no diabetes in Heaven.

Trebee Gaskins was the embodiment of love, compassion, and selfless care. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will forever live on in the countless lives she touched—with a warm meal, a kind word, a gentle hug, and a heart full of grace.
