Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Sue Goodwin Bryant on June 18, 2026, in Florence, South Carolina.

Sue was born on December 19, 1949, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to Ward and Lucille Goodwin. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron Bryant, who she loved and missed dearly, as well as her parents, and her sister, Anne Daugherty.

One of six children, Sue is survived by her sister, Linda Kidd and her husband, Barnes; her brother, Ward A. Goodwin Jr. and his wife, Janice; her sister, Gay Goodwin; and her sister, Janet Duff and her husband, Tommy. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Rebecca Burner and her husband, Stephen; their children, Emma and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

Sue lived most of her life in Virginia, residing in Bluefield, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Cartersville. Most recently, she called the Manor Assisted Living in Florence, SC home. She had a degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds College and worked for many years in accounting for General Electric in Salem and Reynolds/Alcoa in Richmond.

Sue endeared herself to family and friends through her kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Her many lifelong friends could always depend on her for support, love, and laughter. She enjoyed her pets, her plants, nature, gardening, music, the beach, and spending time with those she loved. Sue made friends wherever she went, and everyone cherished her feisty spirit and fun-loving personality. Her legacy lives on through the countless memories she created and the love that continues to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.

Sue’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. and service at 3:00 p.m. at Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Richmond SPCA.
