Shirley J. Stanaland, 86, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.  She was born in Nichols, SC, a daughter of the late Hugh Ghee Johnson and the late Jean Floyd Johnson.  In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Audie Pipkin Stanaland, Jr. and a brother, Richard H. Johnson.

Shirley was born and raised in Nichols, SC and attended the business college for ladies in Raleigh, NC.  While there, she met Audie "Stan" Stanaland and they married in Nichols, SC on May 1, 1955.  They lived in Overland Park, Kansas and Jacksonville FL, then retired to Tallahassee, FL in 1987.  While in Tallahassee Shirley was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  Shortly after Audie's passing in November 2001, Shirley returned home to Florence, SC, where she had family and many friends.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was active with her Sunday School Searchers class.

Surviving are her son, Michael Audie Stanaland (Heather Thompson Stanaland) of Florida; daughter, Sharon Jean Stanaland Gomenis (Nick Anthony Gomenis) of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Brett Michael Stanaland and Kara Stanaland Lacy (Jonathan Lacy), both of Florida, and Nicholas Audie Gomenis, Christina Maria Gomenis both of North Carolina, and Anthony Gomenis (Ally Barclay, Fiancee) of Oregon; sister-in-law, Emily McMillan Johnson of South Carolina; two nephews, Richard Jeffrey Johnson (Bonnie Johnson) and Bradley Hugh Johnson and one niece, Natalie Johnson McDowell (Tim McDowell), all of South Carolina; and various cousins in SC and NC.

A viewing will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on April 16, 2021 at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  COVID protocols will be followed, including social distancing and wearing of masks.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 22, 2021 in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Tallahassee, FL.
