Florence, SC Shirley Glenne Dowd Johnson, 77, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, April 6, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Apex, NC, to the late Samuel Glen Dowd and Leyta Ragan Welch Dowd, she was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Shirley was a retired Registered Nurse with the kindest of hearts and the most beautiful smile that always exuded God's love to everyone she met. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, William Carey Dowd, and a granddaughter, Hope Adele Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Clyde (Johnny) Johnson, Jr., her son William Christopher Johnson (Kelly) of Greenville, SC, her daughter, Wendy Johnson Frazier (Paul) of Florence, four granddaughters, Grace Anne Johnson, Macy Elizabeth Johnson, Isabella Kate Johnson, all of Greenville, SC, and Sydney Jameson Frazier of Florence. She is also survived by her sister Leyta Joyce Durham (Leo), of Greensboro, NC and her brother, Clyde Edward Dowd (Linda) of Apex, NC, and their son, Quentin. She is also survived by a very special niece, April Durham Goode (Steve) of Kannapolis and their children, Noah and Savannah, and lifelong beloved friends, the Alva Berry family. The family greatly appreciates the many acts of kindness, love, and prayers extended to them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Honduras Mission. Visitation will be Saturday, April 9th from 2-4pm in the Fellowship Hall of Ebenezer Baptist Church, with the funeral service immediately following in the sanctuary, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Ebenezer Baptist Church is located at 524 South Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC 29501. A private family burial will follow at a later time.
