Sarah Margaret Smith, 83, of Hartsville, SC, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018.  She was born the daughter of the late Doc and Gladys Lowder in Sumter, SC.  She is also predeceased by a brother, Lawson Lowder.  She was first married to the late Paul Slemmer with whom she had four beautiful children.  Some of her life achievements were working as an EMT.

She also worked in the North Carolina Coast Guard Auxiliary and even drove a race car in the early 70's at the Sumter Speedway.  She retired from General Electric.  She married the late Vernon Smith of Florence in her later years.

She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Lyons (Marty) of Troy, NC and Karen Thompson (Scott) of Hartsville, SC; two sons, Frank Slemmer (Wendi) of Effingham and Michael Slemmer of Santee, SC; three sisters, Virginia Brogdon (Sonny) of Alcolu, SC, Donna Jones (Bob) of Owosso, MI and Lottie Coots (Rex) of Sumter, SC; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, in the chapel of Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.  A private Entombment will take place at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
