Samuel Elwood Barnes, 79, of Florence, passed away on Monday, July 06, 2015 at Commander Nursing Center. Elwood was born in Lee County, a son of the late Kenneth and Alberta Davis Barnes. He was an avid practical jokester who loved his family, fishing, and woodworking. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Sarah Bethune Barnes, a son, Ronnie Barnes, and a brother, Charles Barnes. Surviving are three sons, Andy Ray (Jennifer) Barnes, Michael Lewis (Sallie) Barnes, and Kenneth Sidney Barnes all of Florence; two daughters, Sandy (Amos) Goldie of Richmond, VA and Cynthia Miller of Columbia; a step-daughter, Dwan (Everette) Beach of Manning; five grandchildren, Bradley and Taylor Barnes, Christopher and Christina Miller and Heather McLeod; three great-grandchildren, A.J. Self, Hannah and Sarah McLeod; three siblings, Bill (Ruffy) Barnes of Bishopville, Annette (Tommy) Childers of Sumter, and Barbara (Vernon) Jacobs of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 in the chapel of Cain-Calcutt- Stephens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
