Obituary

A Memorial Service Honoring the Life of Rufus Lee Brown will be held Friday, July 14, 2017. Rufus Lee Brown was born on September 12, 1932 in Raleigh, NC. He was the son of the late Charles and Julia Trice Brown. He passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Carolinas Hospital System. He was the loving husband of Thelma Scott Brown and they were married for 53 years. He graduated from Washington High School in Raleigh, NC and earned an Associate Degree in Drafting from Yuba City College in California. He served in the US Air Force. He worked for Exxon as a Station Manager and at Perfection Hy-Test as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a loving husband to his wife Thelma, and a good provider to his two sons. He began studying the bible with Jehovah's Witnesses in Brooklyn New York, and dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized on September 11, 1971. He moved his family from Brooklyn New York and served for many years as an Elder in the Darlington Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Most recently, he served as an Elder in the Florence West Congregation. He enjoyed many privileges in Jehovah's service. The assignment that he will be most fondly remembered for is volunteering at Assemblies and Conventions by preparing meals for the brothers and sisters. He enjoyed teaching others about Jehovah and he served as a Theocratic Ministry School Overseer for many years. He was a loving husband and a devoted Father. He will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, his positive personality and his good sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles and Julia Trice Brown, his brother, Charles Brown, Jr., and his sister, Elizabeth (Elsie) Morgan. He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma S. Brown, his two sons, Patrick (Lawana) Brown of Camden, SC, and Kevin (Tracee) Brown of Florence, SC, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
