Ruby Pruitt Vaughan, 94, of Florence, died Friday, March 9, 2012 in Florence, SC. She was born December 2, 1917 in Union, SC to the late Henry Harlan and Beatrice Pruitt. Mrs. Ruby and her late husband " Nut " were fondly remembered for owning and operating Vaughan's Fruit Stand and Open Air Market on East Palmetto St. She was a member of the Ladies Shrine Auxillary in Florence, and a woman of strong faith. Ruby believed that all things work for good, for those who love the Lord. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, watching television and playing with her beloved dogs - Gus, PJ, Callie and Pepper. Mrs. Vaughan attended Union County Schools and business college in Greensboro, NC. During WWII she was a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Norfold Manly Vaughan; brothers - Alex Pruitt, George Pruitt, and Linton Pruitt; sisters - Sari Winfree, Mabel Squire and Virginia Branstiter. Survivors include: daughter - Harlana Vaughan of Florence; nephews - George Wesley (Debbie) Branstiter, Esq. of Lexington and William (Barbara) Squire of Ocala, FL; Nieces - Betsy Higgins of Curry, NC, Margaret (William) Johnson of Denver, CO, Nancy Winfree of Columbia, Fairforest Pruitt, Mary Janice Deaton and Ann Dawin Hanes all of Florence; great-nephews - Dr. Wesley Branstiter, Walter, Graham and Allen; great-nieces - Noel, Cindy, Freya, and Sandy; sister-in-law - Annie Roney Vaughan of Florence; and several other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Cain Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
