Ruby Lovette Thiem,100, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at MUSC Florence after a brief illness. She was born in Cherry Grove, NC, a daughter of the late Curtis and Sallie Strickland Lovette, who she loved very much. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, Norman L. Thiem, two sons, Chuck and Kenneth Thiem, a sister, Gracie Turbeville and three brothers, JD Lovette, Guy Lovette and M.C. Lovette.
Ruby graduated from Green Sea High School where she excelled in Home Economics, especially in the artistry of sewing. While in school, she served as the president of the Beta Club and the Glee Club. She met the love of her life, Norman L. Thiem in 1944, while he was stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, VA. They were married just a year later in 1945. Ruby was an active member of Forest Drive Baptist Church in Columbia until she relocated to be closer to her parents and started attending Gospel Temple Worship Center. Her most outstanding achievement is the life long unconditional love she gave everyone.
Surviving are a son, Norman Lee ( Joan) Thiem; three daughters, Sally Thiem, Jenny (Randell) Williams, and Lisa (Tony) Theim-Sutton; grandchildren, Matthew Thiem, Christopher Thiem, Emily (Matthew) Nabors, Andrew Thiem, Randell (Allyn) Williams, Emily (Ryan) Hicks, Jennifer-Grace (Mike) Boyer, and Allison Thiem (Scott) Hartley; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the chapel of Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM just prior to the services. A private burial will be held in Lovette Cemetery in Green Sea, SC.
