Major Roy Roush, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) 91, of Florence, S.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Heritage Home of Florence. He was born in Hartford, WV, a son of the late Jack and Clara Staats Roush. He was a loving husband and father, who retired as a Major in the United States Air Force with 20 years of service to his country navigating B52 bombers. Upon completing his duty, he moved his family to Florence and started a new career with Stone Container as a pulp wood department supervisor. After retiring from Stone Container, he filled his free time with a passion for golf, fine wood work including the building of specialty furniture, school and grandfather clocks. He is predeceased by his parents, three brothers and two sisters, his wife, Mae Ellen Roush, a son, Bobby Roush and a granddaughter, Terri Powers. He is survived by three children, Wayne (Betty) Roush of Florence, S.C.; Judy Chavis of Florence, S.C.; Carol (Sammy) Jordan of Effingham, S.C.; three grandchildren, Cyndi Harris of Florence, S.C.; Billie (Allen) Mitchell of Youngsville, N.C.; Kathy (Richard) Cothran of Darlington, S.C.; six great-grandchildren, Whitney Jeffords, Alex Foxworth, Chase Mitchell, Brittney and Jordan Cothran and Austin Powers. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Marsha McFarland, a caregiver and faithful friend to our father. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 P.M prior to the service in the mausoleum chapel. Entombment will follow directed by Cain-Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home.
