Richard Martin Turner, 70, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Carolinas Hospital System. Born in Mullins, SC, he was a son of the late Ralph and Sarah Perritt Turner. He is predeceased by a sister, Helen Agnes Legg. Richard was a prominent member of the community who was free spirited, full of life, and enjoyed helping others with their landscape. Richard was a devout Christian and an avid member of Southside Baptist Church and their 57+ Sunday School Class. He retired after 28 years from the Willow Gray Opportunity School in the dietary department. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janet Tomlinson Turner; his sons, Bruce (Mercedes) Jones of Savannah, GA and Joel (Paula) Jones of Florence; brothers, Ralph F. (MaryAnn) Turner, Jr., Frank Turner, C.M. Turner, all of Marion, and Thomas (Sherry) Turner of Cheraw; sisters, Lillian Wise and Ida Mae (Don) Wilcox, both of Florence, and Gail Johnson of Marion; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence.
