Richard Eugene Moore, 85, of Florence, SC , passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Mr. Moore was born in Isle, Minnesota, a son of the late Helen Kotys Moore Baxmann and Gene Moore. Richard graduated in 1958 from Glenbrook High School in Glenview, IL, was a US Army veteran, and worked as a carpenter while in Illinois. He came to Florence and worked at Union Carbide. He retired from the Florence Police Department and earned his criminal justice degree from Florence Darlington Technical College while serving with the department. He was a member of First Church of Quinby, a life member of the Mason Amity Lodge #340, a Noble with the Omar Shrine Temple, and a member of the American Legion. Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his step-father, Ernest E. Baxmann.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Mary Brown Moore; children, Cora Susan Moore (Scott) Barnhart, Mary Ann Moore (Randy) Creech, Nicholas “Nicky” Gene (Carol) Moore, Melissa Helen Moore (John) Owens, and Christopher Paul (Anna Mobley) Moore; grandchildren, Elana Barnhart, Laura Barnhart (Derek) Biorun, Faith Creech, Spencer (Sophie) Creech, Kelsey Creech (Jonathan) Hazle, Austin Owens, and Holly Owens; great-grandchildren, Callison Hazle, Lion Hazle, Koen Hazle, Chapel Hazle, Selah Creech, Sabbath Creech, Avery Biorun, Hudson Biorun; brother, William “Bill” (Denise) Baxmann; brother-in-law, Bill Brown; and nephew, Anthony Baxmann.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am – 11:30 noon Friday, January 2, 2025 at First Church of Quinby with the service to be held at 11:30 in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in Florence National Cemetery directed by Calcutt-Dowling Funeral Home.
