Florence, SC Richard Speight Floyd, Sr., 82, of Florence, SC, died on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Pee Dee Gardens in Florence. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC, a son of the late James L. and Mary Hedrick Floyd. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy Price Floyd, four brothers and four sisters. Mr. Floyd attended the Rocky Mount Schools. He served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division, during the Korean War. He was awarded the Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Asian Occupational Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and one Bronze Star. He retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service. He is survived by his daughter, Kandis F. (Alex) Lindsay of Fayetteville, NC; son, Richard "Rick" S. Floyd, Jr. of Cheraw, SC; daughter, Sandra "Sandy" F. (Clark) Ard of Effingham, SC; grandchildren, Heather Summerford, David McCoy, Richard S. Floyd III, Holden Floyd, Bailey Floyd, Nicholas Ard and Natalie Ard; and one great-grandchild, Lauren Summerford; and a sister-in-law, Brenda G. Price (Richard) Bunn. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Mount Hope Mausoleum with military honors, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
