Florence, SC Richard "Warren" Baird, 77, died peacefully at his residence on January 29, 2016. He was surrounded by his family and friends and his beloved dogs. A native of Lake City, SC, Warren was born July 25, 1938, to parents Rennie and Naomi Baird. After attending Wofford College, he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business. He built a successful career as a commercial lender for several financial institutions in Charlotte, NC, including American Credit. In 1983, he and his family moved to Florence so he could head up a new SBA Lending Department for Peoples Federal Bank. After many transitions within Peoples Federal, Warren ventured into self-employment with his own commercial lending company, Southeastern Financial, which he operated for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, June Bright Baird of Florence. He was the proud father of four children; Rick Baird of Charlotte, NC, Kay Baird Prevatte of Atlanta, GA, Van Baird (wife Wendy) of Atlanta, GA, and Nikki Baird Ewing (husband Alton) of Georgetown, SC. His pride and joy came from his grandchildren; Tyler Prevatte, Eric Prevatte, Keleigh Prevatte, Sarah Ashley Baird, Carolyn Baird and Darby Ewing. He was a dedicated member of Central United Methodist Church and the Sarah Blanton Sunday School Class. In his final years, it was his relationship with his church family that gave him such peace. He was an avid golfer, loved playing bridge, tending to his yard and watching Gamecock football. The family would like to thank the wonderful staffs of Agape Hospice and Elmcroft Memory Care for their overwhelming care during his final months. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Central United Methodist Church on N. Irby Street, followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 3:00 pm. Memorials can be made to the mission and ministry of Central UMC.
