A celebration of life service for Mrs. Rebecca Bridges Tolar, will be 11:00AM Saturday April 5, 2008 in First Presbyterian Church, Kinston, NC, conducted by the Rev. Jonathon Wallace. Interment will be earlier at Westview Cemetery in Kinston. The family will receive friends from7:00-8:00 Friday April 4 in the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 2101 North Heritage Street, Kinston, NC 28501. Cain Funeral Home, Florence and Edwards Funeral Home, Kinston are assisting the family. Mrs. Tolar, of Florence formerly of Kinston, NC, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in a local nursing facility. She was born in Sanford, NC, the daughter of the late William P. and Ruth Bridges. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Douglas Stanley Tolar, Sr. and a sister, Dorothy Askins of Florence, SC. She attended Raeford, NC Schools and Appalachian State College in Boone, NC. Mrs. Tolar was very active in the city of Kinston, NC. She was past President of the Lioness Club Auxiliary; a past member of the Kinston No. 53 Order of the Eastern Star; a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church and active in the Church programs and the Kinston P.T.A. She had been a Cub Scout Den mother and a Girl Scout leader. Mrs. Tolar volunteered at Mary's Kitchen and Lenoir Memorial Hospital. She was the co-founder of the Leisure Club at the First Presbyterian Church and was awarded a Life Member of the Presbyterian Women. Survivors include a son, Douglas Stanley (Lee) Tolar, Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a daughter Rosanne Rivers (Freddie) Saunders of Florence, SC; three grandsons, Bryan (Beth) Rivers of Columbia, SC, David Rivers of Tampa, FL, and Lee (Wanette) Rivers of Vancouver, Washington; two granddaughters, Meredith Tolar (Josh) Penninger of Charlotte, NC and Lauren Tolar of Tampa, FL; three step-grandsons, Rick (Tiffany) Saunders, Paul (Kathy) Saunders of Florence, and Mark Saunders of Tucson, AZ; five great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
