PO2 Roy Franklin Smith, Jr., Retired US Navy Reserve, 61, of Pamplico, SC, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Roy was born in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late Pansy Strickland Smith and Roy Franklin Smith, Sr. He is also predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Cliff Dunlap and Leon Streett. He graduated from Scott High School in 1981 and joined the US Navy. Roy served in the Gulf war and served 11 years active duty and then retired from the Navy Reserve after serving for 20 years. After retiring, he worked in security. Roy was a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed coin collecting.
Surviving are his sons, James Charles Smith and Roy Franklin Smith III (Evie); a grandchild, Royelle Smith; three sisters, Naomi Marie Dunlap, Mary Elizabeth Streett and Destiny Calcutt (Brian); and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the Cain Calcutt Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Florence National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the DAV.
