Obituary

Paul William Parrott (Bill) was born on January 7, 1946, and passed away on May 16, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynn Purvis Parrott, his son Brian William Parrott (Melissa), and his daughter Julia Parrott Hickman. He leaves behind his five granddaughters, Alex, Amanda, Madelyn, Eliza, and Amelia, and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Jane, and James. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mimi Parrott (Wayne Bryan) and Joy Chandler.

He and Lynn eloped when they were just 21 and 19, sharing a remarkable 58-year journey together. They explored the world, spending many years in Germany, raising their children and embracing the adventure of life abroad. Bill, lovingly known as Granddaddy, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing his stories and memories. He especially cherished teaching his great-grandson baseball and hearing about his granddaughters' many adventures.

Bill served his country with distinction as a Vietnam veteran, dedicating 20 years to the Army and retiring as a Major. He was a Purple Heart recipient along with many other military honors and decorations. Bill also served Florence County in administration for 14 years. Beyond his career, Bill deeply valued his faith. He served his church family at the Church at Sandhurst as a deacon and a member of the Missions Outreach Team. He faithfully led his Wednesday night small group for many years, finding purpose in guiding others.

Bill was a proud USC alumnus and a lifelong Gamecock fan, supporting his team through thick and thin. If he wasn't tending to his beautiful yard, you could find him on the golf course. He cherished the game and travelled to iconic courses like St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, and the Ocean Course at Kiawah. He also helped organize tournaments for the Tri-County Senior Golf League for several years.

Bill's legacy is one of faith, family, service, and love. He will be remembered for his energetic approach to life, love of conversation and storytelling, and the countless lives he touched. Funeral services will be held at Church at Sandhurst on Thursday, May 22, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  The family will receive visitors at 3 and the funeral will begin at 4.
