Otho Dan "OD" Dodd, 82, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the McLeod Hospice House. OD was born in Haleyville, Alabama, a son of the late Buford Benjamin Dodd and Pernia Dodd Storen. He worked at J.P Stevens & Company in Pamplico, SC for over five years then went to work with Rental Uniform of Florence, SC, where he retired in 2003 with 28 years of dedicated service. OD was a member of the Florence Baptist Temple. He loved sports, athletics and influencing young adults, having refereed football and basketball for over 30 years for the SC Independent Schools (SCISA). He also loved grilling and serving the beloved first responders of the troopers, sheriffs dept. and local fire dept. and was the self-proclaimed "Greatest Fan of the University of Alabama" ROLL TIDE!!
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, I. Faye McPhail Dodd, a son, Danny Wayne Dodd, a daughter, Melisa Dodd (Todd Phillip) Setsma; four grandchildren, Dylan Dodd, Bailey Dodd (Logan) Telliho, Nicholas P. Setsma and Zachary D. (Ellie) Setsma, a brother, Leslie M. (Kay) Dodd, a sister, Louise Dodd Smith, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the chapel of the Florence Baptist Temple directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm just prior to the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Florence Baptist Temple or the Frank Monroe Scholarship Fund.
