Nancy Oglesby Packard passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was born on June 28, 1944 to the late T. G. and Eleanor Oglesby of Lynchburg, Virginia. Nancy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Daniel B. Packard, daughter Dorothy "Boo" and husband Stanley Carraway, son Daniel "Pack" Packard and wife Kimberly, grandchildren Trey, Chase, Penn, Jude, Anna and Lily, two sisters Barbara Sue Nicholl and Ellen O'Hara. She is also survived by her beautiful, black rescue Labrador named Ringo. Nancy graduated from E. C. Glass high school in the class of 1962. After 2 years at Lynchburg College, she married Dan in 1964 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She continued her education at Jacksonville University earning both her B.A. in Education and her Master of Arts in Teaching. She taught in Florida schools until the family moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1975. While teaching at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, where she also served as a Vice Principal, she attended Georgia Southern University in the evenings to earn her Educational Specialist degree. She was also the troop leader for her daughter's Girl Scout Troop. Nancy continued teaching in both public and private schools in Savannah, Georgia until 1988. Upon moving to Florence, South Carolina in 1988, Nancy was hired to teach at McLaurin Elementary where she taught for 8 years until moving to Sneed Middle School where she taught for another 8 years until her retirement in 2004. She taught at 8 different schools throughout her 36 years of teaching, helping countless numbers of children across all grade levels sharing her love of math and education. Above all else, Nancy was selfless in her care and concern for everyone around her. Her faith in God was strong and unwavering her entire life, even in the midst of her difficult battle with breast cancer. She was a faithful member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Darlington, South Carolina for the past 26 years. She has absolutely "Run with patience the race that is set before us" (Hebrews 12:1) and, in doing so, has given us all lessons in perseverance, love, grace, faith, and strength. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Darlington. Her family wishes to share their tremendous gratitude to the staff and practices of Dr. James Smith, Dr. Steven Ross, Dr. Reginald Bolick and the entire staff of the McLeod Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the McLeod Hospice House and the Wilmington, North Carolina animal rescue group Adopt an Angel.
