Myron "Ron" Carter Pitts, 69, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at a local hospital after an illness. Mr. Pitts was born on November 12, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of the late Francis Myron Pitts, Jr. and Katie Carter Pitts. He was also predeceased by his wife, Margaret Edwards Pitts. As a young man, he attended Auburn University and during his time in the US Marine Corps, he was awarded a medal for marksmanship. He went on to work in sales for many years. He was most recently employed by Food Lion. He was an active member of College Park Baptist Church and was a long time Bible teacher. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and writing short stories. Surviving are his son, Richard Pitts, and his daughter, Wendy (Robert) Gamble, both of Florence; three grandchildren, Elijah Pitts of Goose Creek, Blake Sansbury of Atlanta, GA, and Alexa Sansbury of Florence; a sister, Kay Bartlett of Charleston; and a nephew, Ted Bartlett of Charleston. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
