Obituary

Pamplico, S.C. Mildred "Tootsie" Juanita Rogers Jones DeWitt, 86, of Charleston, formerly of Pamplico, S.C., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Life Care Center of Charleston. Mildred was born in Rockingham, N.C., a daughter of the late Keever M. and Etta Elizabeth Oliver Rogers. Mildred was a member of Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church and enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and cooking large family meals. Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Linda Jones Williams (Tunky) of Swansea, S.C.; Elizabeth Jones Cox of Summerville, S.C.; Sue Carol Jones Lolley(Roger) of Mobile, AL; Richard Earl Jones (Carol) of Martinez, CA; two step-daughters, Debbie Burkart (Jeff) of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Cheryl Hyman (Tony) of Pamplico, S.C. and a brother, Carl Rogers. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Allen Williams, Susan Williams Badia, Emily Cox Kmetz, Ginny Cox, Lance Lolley, Margaret Lolley, Dan Jones, Tim Jones, Julie Ann Jones, Wendy Jones Barrera, Brandon Hyman and Brittany Hyman; 8 great-grandchildren. Mildred was predeceased by her first husband, Haywood Ivan Jones, and her second husband, Jerry LeGrand Dewitt; four brothers, Thomas Rogers, Marion Rogers, Daniel Rogers, Sherwood Rogers and infant son, Haywood Ivan Jones, Jr. Relatives and friends of Mildred Jones DeWitt are invited to attend the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church, 222 Pamplico Highway in Pamplico, S.C. officiated by Pastor Shep Stone. Burial will follow in Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Cain-Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the caregivers at Agape Hospice-Charleston. Much gratitude and appreciation is also expressed to the staff of Life Care Center of Charleston who dubbed her lovingly as "Miss Southern". Though our sorrow is deep, we take great comfort in knowing Heaven has gained another angel. She lived a humble, full and Christian life and she will be missed and loved always.
