Obituary

Michel Salim Hayek, 74, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Michel was born in Beirut, Lebanon, the eldest child of the late Salim and Jeannette (Ghanimeh) Hayek.  . He worked as a flight attendant and supervisor for Middle East Airlines (MEA), traveling the world, before emigrating to the United States in 1977.  Upon settling in the U.S., Michel embarked on a variety of ventures that shaped his life. In 1980, he opened a frame shop in Florence, which he successfully operated until 1993. At that time, he and his brother Elias co-founded Subs Plus, a beloved local business, where Michel continued to work until his retirement in 2023.

Michel will be remembered for his dedication, entrepreneurial spirit, and the profound impact he had on his community and those who knew him. He was also known as a philosopher, whose musings sparked thoughtful conversations about life, ethics, and the world around him.

Surviving are his brothers, Joseph (Blanche) Hayek, Elias (Angie) Hayek, Jhonny (Sihame) Hayek, and Tony (Youmna) Hayek; his sisters, Nahia Nacour and Youssra (Elie) Chamoun; as well as numerous nieces and nephews both in Lebanon and the United States.

Michel was predeceased by his siblings, Lavy Hayek and Frida Hayek, as well as his beloved fur baby, Layla.
