Mattie Mae Frederick Barbee, 97, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016, at the Heritage Home of Florence. She was born on June 21, 1919 in Durham, NC, a daughter of the late Calvin E. and Iva Mae Green Frederick. She is also predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Nello Barbee, Sr. and brother, Gene Frederick. Mrs. Barbee worked for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company in her younger years in Durham, NC and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lenora Chapter #30 for 60 years. She is survived by her son, Nello (Beverly) Barbee, Jr. of Graham, NC; daughters, Sheila (Richard) Barnhill of Beverly Hills, FL and Cinda (Dean) Strickland of Effingham; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild due in two weeks. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM on Monday, November 7, 2016 in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St Paul United Methodist Church.
