A graveside service for Mary Ida Tarlton, wife of Augustus Harell Tarlton, will be at 1:00PM Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Florence National Cemetery, with Rev. Glenn Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM tonight at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be amde to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave Suite D, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. Mrs. Tarlton, 82, died Monday, October 27, 2008, in a local hospital. She was born August 30, 1926, in New Salem Township of Union County, NC, to the late Fred Oliver and Nellie Pauline Stewart Smith. She was brought up in the Southern Baptist faith. Mrs. Tarlton retired from the Florence County Library as a Library Associate Technical Services in 1996, after 30 years of service. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are: daughters, Wendy (Julio) Godoy of Florence, and Donna (Capt. James D., USN Ret.) Eldridge of Virginia Beach, VA; sons, Rick Tarlton of Florence, and Ted (Carol) Tarlton of Gibsonville, NC; granddaughters, Mary Elissa, SSgt Sara Bevin and Lea Anne Eldridge, Belle Eldridge (William) Sommerindyke, Jessica Elaine and Stephanie Anne Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Douglas Connor Rhodes, Anna Elizabeth and Jackson James Sommerindyke; and brothers Edwin Smith of Virginia and Bill Smith of Monroe, NC.
