Mary Mitchell Sloan Brown, 78, of Florence, SC, died on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Born in Wilmington, NC, Mary was a daughter of the late Mary Douglas Council Sloan and George Sloan, Sr. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth "Bill" Brown, Sr., and a granddaughter, Krystal Brown, as well as one sister and two brothers. Mary was a charter member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Florence, and was a faithful member for over 50 years, where she also taught Sunday school. Mary was retired from the City of Florence. She is survived by her sons, Ken (Phyllis) Brown and Wayne (Marie) Brown; daughters, Rose Marie (Kem) Hawkins, Laura (Kent) Simmons of Marietta, GA, and Mary Frances Brown; and a foster son, Troy (Ruth Ann) Southerland; grandchildren, Michael (Alicia) Hawkins, Ryan (Megan) Brown, Shane Hawkins, Kristen Brown, Jacob Brown, Kaycee Brown, Bryden Simmons, Claire Brown and Luke Simmons; and great grandchildren, Jayden Hawkins and Rylan Brown. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Florence, directed by Cain Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church, prior to the service, from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, and other times at the residence of Wayne and Marie Brown.
