Martin Francis Filipiak, Jr., 96, of Florence, SC, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at a local health care facility. He was born in Posen, IL, a son of the late Martin Francis Filipiak, Sr. and Antionette Filipiak. Martin was a US Army Veteran having served honorably in the Korean War. He was employed with Allis-Chalmers as a Carpenter in Harvey, IL and later worked for Treger as an operator and was later transferred to Florence, SC. He ended his work career as a driver for Pee Dee Isotopes. Martin was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he attended regularly until his health declined. He was proud of his polish heritage, loving to Polka Dance and playing the accordion to Polka Music. Martin also when he was able to work in his yard.
He is preceded in death in addition to his parents by his loving wife, Susan Lynn Spellbring Filipiak and three brothers, Walter, Eddie and Freddie Filipiak.
Surviving are his son, Anthony Filipiak, Sr. (Anna Scnitzler); three adopted sons, Daryl Combs, Dean Combs and Jake Jacobson; eight grandchildren, Alexis, Anthony Jr., Amanda, Kenny, Heather, Christine, Race and Dalton; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A mass service will be held 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. An inurnment will take place later in Illinois. Cain Calcutt funeral home is honored to assist the Filipiak family.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Florence Area Humaine Society or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
