Obituary

Margaret Ann Williams Haskell passed away on March 1, 2010. Mrs. Haskell was born July 6, 1925, in Culpepper, Virginia, to George Montague Williams and Margaret Piersoll Jones Williams. Mrs. Haskell spent her early childhood in Culpepper. When her father assumed command of the security detail for Governor James H. Price in 1938, the family moved to Richmond, Virginia. She was educated in Richmond schools graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School and The Pan American School. Ann was a devoted wife and loving mother who spent her life raising her children and following her husband's career. She was acknowledged as a great cook and gardener. While raising her children, she was active in Ware Episcopal Church, The Women's Club of Gloucester and took great joy being involved in all her children's activities. Ann was an avid book reader and formidable bridge player. Mrs. Haskell and her husband of 64 years, John Baldwin Haskell, a Nuclear Engineer and Naval Architect have traveled the World. In the early years of her marriage, she lived in New York, Michigan and Virginia. Her husband's profession provided them the opportunity to live in Germany, Holland, Saudi Arabia, North Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea. While living abroad, Mrs. Haskell was involved in several International Wives Clubs. Ann called "Clermont" home in Gloucester, Virginia, while raising her children, Montague Williams Haskell (Elizabeth) of Gloucester, Virginia and Cynthia Lee Haskell Kispert (John J.) of Florence, South Carolina. Mrs. Haskell spent her latter years as a resident of the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee where her enthusiasm for life and sense of humor served as a beacon to others. Mrs. Haskell is survived by her husband, John Baldwin Haskell, two children and four grandchildren; Matthew Williams Haskell and John Warren Haskell of Gloucester, Virginia; Katherine Blair Kispert of Greensboro, North Carolina and Lance Corporal John Andrew Kispert, USMC, currently assigned in the Middle East. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by a sister, Rose Lee Williams McGeorge (Ellett) of Richmond, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Ware Episcopal Church in Gloucester, Virginia, with burial to follow at Ware Episcopal Cemetery.
