Margaret C. "Sissy" Spann, of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the McLeod Hospice House. She was born in Florence, SC, a daughter of the late Cleyburn Daniel Carter and Helen Wiggins Rogers. Sissy is preceded in death in addition to her parents by a brother, C.F. "Sonny" Carter and a half sister, Kay White. Sissy was a former student & teacher with Betty Stevens Cosmetology and a former model with Lord & Taylor and Belk. She started her nursing career in the McLeod Infirmary as an ICU nurse and a private nurse. Sissy furthered her career working at Pee Dee Center, Department of Disability & Special Needs and was the former Director of Nursing for Saleeby Center over a 20 year span. She was a former teacher of nursing as well as the infirmary nurse at Wingate University. She also trained and taught nurses with Palmetto Pharmacy Company to administer medication. She was the owner of Escape in Time, a store of antiques and estate jewelry. Sissy was born and raised in the Catholic Church. She was an accomplished artist in acrylic paint and loved all animals. Surviving are her loving husband of 37 years, Edward "Charlie" Charlton Spann, Jr.; sons, James C. Harwell, Walter R. Harwell, William A. (Amy Bradberry) Harwell and Brian Christopher (Elisha) Spann; a grandchild, Greta H. Harwell; a brother, William Daniel Carter; a sister, Belinda Davis; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved fur babies, Oliver and Stella. A rosary service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home with visitation following until 5:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Area Humane Society, 1434 S McCurdy Rd, Florence, SC 29506.
