Manfred "Fred" Erich Hackbarth, 76, died Thursday, April 18, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House after a recent illness.  He was born in Rostock, East Germany to the late Erich Hermann Fritz Hackbarth and Anna Minna Hedwig Schnabel Hackbarth.  He came to America in 1976 and obtained his citizenship in 1990 on the courthouse steps in Florence, SC.

Fred was an employee of LTech/ESAB as a mechanical engineer for 15 years.   He loved to cook and throw parties to entertain his family and friends and to regale them with stories.  He was an avid soccer player while living in Germany and he loved to play golf.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lana Ferek Hackbarth; a sister Dagmar Hoppe; a nephew Bernd Hoppe; a great niece Johanna Hoppe; a great nephew Philip Hoppe, all of Germany.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Cain-Calcutt Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 12 in the chapel.
