Obituary

Lisa Lamm Free passed away peacefully on the morning of November 15, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. Born on October 14, 1957, in Rocky Mount, NC, she went on to live most of her life in Florence, SC. That is where she met her loving husband, Barry Phin Free, and where together they built a beautiful life with their three sons: Alan, Michael, and Daniel. Lisa's family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into making every gathering and holiday truly special.

A dedicated educator, Lisa earned her Master's degree in Special Education at Francis Marion University and devoted over 30 years of her career to teaching students with learning disabilities and special needs in Florence District 1 Schools. She worked tirelessly to provide individualized support to her students, inspiring countless lives with her unwavering commitment, compassion, and joy. Lisa was beloved by her students, many of whom greeted her with hugs and smiles long after leaving her classroom.

Lisa found joy in spending time with family and friends, soaking up the summer sunshine at the beach, and decorating her home with impeccable style. She had a remarkable heart for animals, often rescuing those in need, no matter how challenging their circumstances. You would always find Lisa with a cup of ice and Diet Coke in hand, happy to tag along for a shopping trip.

Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, Berry Lamm and Mary "Bunny" Crowley, and her brother, Berry Lamm Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband, Barry Phin Free; her loving sons, Alan Free, Michael Free, Daniel Free and his wife Katie O'Shields Free; her sister, Grace Vines, as well as her husband Jack Vines and daughter Genevieve Vines; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. Cremation services are entrusted to Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.

The Free family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, Michelle Tarlton and Joan Floyd for their compassionate care and to their friends for their support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Lisa's honor.

Lisa's generosity, love, and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and students will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
