Florence, SC Linda Stokes Cockman, 68, of Florence, S.C., went to be with the Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at McLeod Hospice House after a six month illness. She was born in Florence, S.C., the daughter of the late Evander Bill and Tiny Jeanette King Stokes. She is predeceased by her parents, one brother, Larry Wade Stokes and his wife Phyllis, one sister-in-law, Gerrie Stokes. Linda was retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. After her retirement, Linda was a volunteer with CHS for six years and was Volunteer of the Year in 2009. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Bea Richburg Sunday School Class. She is survived by her husband, John Wesley Cockman of Florence, S.C.; one son, Richard Hamilton (Debbie) Thornhill of Florence, S.C.; two step-daughters, Terry Cockman (Andrew) Bland of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; Holly Diane Cockman of Holden Beach, N.C.; six grandchildren and one great granddaughter; three brothers, George Warren Stokes of Socastee, S.C.; Evander Bill (Helen) Stokes and Richard Joel (Vickie) Stokes, both of Florence, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. at Southside Baptist Church. The family will hold a visitation at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M., prior to the service.
