Obituary

Lavis Susan Chewning Law, 88, widow of Harry Thomas Law, Passed away December 31, 2016 at McLeod Hospice Home. Mrs. Law was born in Spencer, WV, a daughter of the late Peter Brooks Chewning and Diamond Rose Simmons Chewning. During the 1930's depression the family moved to Williamstown, WV where she graduated from high school. She attended one of the first LPN schools and worked as a nurse for 20 years. She was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a recipient of the Grand Cross of Colors of the Rainbow Girls. Mrs. Law later moved to Florence, SC where she was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughter Patricia Law DeVito (Joseph), son Richard Brooks Law (Louise). She has four grandchildren, Eric C. Jensen (Beth), Richard Law (Terri), Thomas Law (Gloria), Gina L. Staub (Herb) and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry Law, one brother Kenneth Chewing, and one sister Rose Morehead. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Home of Florence for their loving care and McLeod Hospice Home for their gentle end of life care. A celebration of her life will be held in Williamstown, WV. Memorials may be made to Pisgah UMC, Florence, SC or Heritage Home of Florence Alzheimer Program.
