A memorial service for LaVera Krug Sullivan, widow of Robert Edward Sullivan, will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday, December 6, 2008, in New Covenant Presbyterian Church, Manning, conducted by Rev. Charles Tyler. A second service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Ascension Lutheran Church, Daphne, AL conducted by Rev. Harold Hoeferkamp. Interment next to her husband will follow at Pine Rest Cemetery, Foley, AL. Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 8888 County Rd. 64, Daphne, AL 36526. Cain Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mrs. Sullivan, 97, died Monday, December 1, 2008. She was born December 18, 1910, in Hoisington, KS, the eldest of six children of the late Philip and Anna Seigfried Krug. She attended public schools in Hoisington and after graduation from high school in 1928, attended Fort Hayes College for two years. Thereafter she worked for Kansas Power and Light in Wichita, KS. LaVera Krug was married Dec 27, 1938 to Robert Edward Sullivan in Independence, MO and they lived in the South after their marriage, where Mr. Sullivan worked for heavy equipment and farm machinery companies during WWII. In 1950 the Sullivan's moved to Hoisington, KS and engaged in farming. Later they bought a Buick and John Deere dealership in Ness City, KS, where Mrs. Sullivan kept the dealership's books. Returning eventually to Hoisington, the Sullivan's operated a construction business, which built and landscaped several of the roadside parks along I-70 when the interstate system was being developed through Kansas. Mrs. Sullivan fulfilled a life-long dream when she completed a bachelor's degree in education in 1966 awarded by Ft. Hayes Kansas State Teachers College. The Sullivan's retired in 1970 to Gulf Shores, AL and enjoyed a happy retirement with numerous friends and frequent visits from their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Sullivan died in 1986 and Mrs. Sullivan continued living in the family home until moving to Westminster Village, Spanish Fort, AL in 1998. In August 2007, she moved to the Methodist Manor to be near her son and daughter-in-law who lived in Manning. LaVera and Robert lived mostly in small towns and enjoyed civic activities and consistent involvement in their respective churches. She helped organize a pageant and style show which were among civic events marking the sesquicentennial of Hoisington in 1958. She was always known for her friendliness, hospitality and gracious concern for those around her.. Surviving, are: son, Robert E. (Nancy) Sullivan of Manning, SC; daughter, Margaret Ann Kraeuchi of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
