Lauretta R. McClure, affectionately known as "Memaw", departed this life August 28, 2011. She was born at home in Palo, Michigan on October 12, 1918. She was the widow of Charles H. McClure. Lauretta retired from the Florence County DSS in June 1983. Upon retirement, she volunteered at McLeod's Hospital and in 1999, she was named Volunteer of the Year, having more than 6500 hours of service. Lauretta also volunteered at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC for several years. In her later years, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and sewing quilts and blankets for her family and friends. Lauretta is survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother who all reside in Michigan. She is also survived by 4 daughters, Nancy (Ernest) Bowie of Jamestown, NC; Janet (Richard) Lambert of Florence, SC; Raenell Brooks and Joe Danielson of Florence, SC; and Charlene (James) Sloan of Columbia, SC. Lauretta is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband and 1 brother. A family graveside gathering will be held Friday, September 2, 2011, at 10:00 AM at the National Cemetery in Florence. The family will then be at the home of Janet and Richard Lambert, 708 S. Joyce Lane, Florence, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to McLeod's Hospice, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502.
