"Boogie" Brice
January 18, 1933 – May 20, 2016
Larry McDonald "Boogie" Brice, 83, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016, at McLeod Hospice House. Born in Kingstree, SC, he was a son of the late Dr. Joe Miller Brice and Alyce Stafford Brice. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Joe M. "Dody" (Juliette) Brice, Jr. and Dr. Boyce "Bubby" (Maxine) Brice. "None Ever Better Fluttered" Larry served in the US Army as an Army Ranger. He was a Paratrooper, Jumpmaster, as well as an instructor. He graduated from Presbyterian College with degrees in history and theology. After his military service, Larry became an independent agent for State Farm and operated his agency for 36 years. He was a co-founder of Evans Funeral Home, now Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home and involved in many other business activities. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting with friends and his boys. He trained dogs and was a field trial judge. Larry lived his life as a servant of his Lord and Savior. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Florence, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, adult Sunday school teacher, and youth teacher. He was a co-founder of the Manna House in Florence. He served as a Big Brother for many young boys. He was a member of many civic organizations including long term service to the Lions Club. He supported many charities and benevolent organizations with a special emphasis on the Salvation Army. Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Madeline McElwee Brice; sons, William Mark Brice of Florence and Boyce (Kim) Brice of Virginia; a daughter, Alicia (Sam) Bevacqua of Ohio; three grandchildren, Jessica, Joey and Madison; two great-grandchildren, Sydnee and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 23, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Florence, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one's choice.
