Larry Rudolph Abercrombie, 70, of Florence, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Florence, SC. He was born June 7, 1942 in Greenville, SC to the late Raymond Robert and Ludie Morris Traynham Abercrombie. Larry attended Fork Shoals Elementary School and graduated from Ellen Woodside High School in 1960. He also earned an Associates Degree from Florence Darlington Technical College. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1961-1965. Larry married Barbara Pressley on February 26, 1966. He worked for Fiber Industries, Inc. in Greenville, SC before tranferring to the Florence, SC Palmetto Plant, which later became Wellman Industries, Inc. He retired from Wellman in 2001. Larry was an avid sports fan. He loved hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was a coach in the Florence Recreation Department for youth football and girls softball. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Morris Watson Abercrombie and James Robert Abercrombie. Survivors include: wife - Barbara Pressley Abercrombie of Florence; son - Gregory Abercrombie of Florence; daughters - Debra Abercrombie (Dr. Demian Chapman) of Miller Place, NY and Amy Abercrombie of Lewes, DE; grandchildren - Garrett, Hannah and Kristen Abercrombie of Florence; sisters - Bobbie Jean (Bob) Todd of Greenville, Faye (Lee) Cothran of Lexington and Sylvia (Wilton) Lawrence of Woodruff; brother - Donnie (Ruth Sciple) Abercrombie of Lexington; sister-in-law - Sara Revis Abercrombie of Simpsonville and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Lebanon United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Lee Cothran, Jr. Interment will follow at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, October 26, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cain Funeral Home and again from 2:00-3:00 PM Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Lebanon United Methodist Church.
