Obituary

Kitty Kelly Walters, 76, of Florence, SC, entered into rest on January 30, 2014 at McLeod Hospice House following an illness. Mrs. Walters was born in Statesboro, GA on September 28, 1937, to the late George Ross and Emma Thompson Kelly. She graduated from Statesboro High and Georgia Southern (Teacher's) College, and later, from University of South Carolina with a Masters Degree in Music. She was employed by several Georgia school districts, Florence District schools, and All Saints Episcopal Day School as an elementary music teacher. She also played piano for many different venues such as Country Club of South Carolina, Players Restaurant, and Carmen's Restaurant, as well as a string of private parties and dances. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and cherished being a member of the choir there and playing for several Sunday school classes. She resided at The Carolinian for the past few years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Joe Velton Walters. Surviving is her daughter, Laurie L. Walters of Louisville, GA; son, Mark K. (Syd) Walters, of Florence; grandson, Samuel J. Walters, of Louisville, GA; sisters, Phoebe (Bruce) Collins, of Okatie, SC; Jacqueline (James) Hinz's, of Jonesboro, GA; Paula (Lawrence) Rogers, of Eastman, GA; Emaline (Rock) Perdoni, of Newborn, GA; and Pat (David) Alley, of Savannah, GA; brothers, Ross Kelly, of Gainesville, GA; Bill (Laurie) Kelly, of Richmond Hill, GA; Mike (Margo) Kelly, of Jacksonville, FL; and Pete (Elizabeth) Kelly, of Kitty Hawk, NC; brother-in-law, Jerry (Kris) Walters, of Ft. Pierce, FL; and 29 nieces and nephews (with 15 spouses, 27 grand nieces and nephews, and a great-grand niece). Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502 or to Central United Methodist Church, 265 W Cheves Street; PO Box 87; Florence, SC 29503-0087. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Central United Methodist Church directed by Cain Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at The Carolinian, 718 S Dargan, St, Florence, SC. The family would like to thank the staff at The Carolinian and the staff at McLeod Hospice House for the tender loving care of their mother.
