A graveside service for Joel Gibson Andrews, Jr., husband of Ruth Carmen Holbrook Andrews, will be at, 1:00PM Thursday, August 7, 2008, in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Mr. Andrews will be taken from Cain Funeral Home to E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights, VA where the family will receive friends Wednesday August 6,2008 from 7-8:30PM. Mr. Andrews, Jr., 87, died Monday, August 4, 2008, in a local nursing home. He was born June 23, 1921, in Petersburg, VA, to the late Joel Gibson and Lela Estelle Bailey Andrews. He was also predeceased by a brother, Robert Edwin and a sister, Hazel Lucille. Mr. Andrews received his BA from Francis Marion University and his Masters from California State University. He was the Assistant Supervisor of Education at the Federal Reformatory, Petersburg, VA and later became Head of Research and Development and Supervisor of Drafting for Titmus Optical Company, also in Petersburg, VA. He then served as Draftsman for the City of Long Beach, CA. He came to Florence and taught Drafting as Head of Engineering Graphics at Florence-Darlington Tech for 16 years, retiring in 1983. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: several beloved nieces and nephews.
