A memorial service for Joe Velton Walters, husband of Kitty Kelly Walters, will be at 4:00PM, Tuesday, September 23, 2008, in Central United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Tom Pietila and Rev. Wil Malambri. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30-8:30PM in Spears Hall of Central United Methodist Church. Memorials may be to Central United Methodist Church 225 W. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29501. Mr. Walters, 73, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008. He was born November 18, 1934, in Kissimmee, FL, to the late Velton and Ona Jo Collins Walters. He was also predeceased by a sister, Paula Corrine Fales. Mr. Walters received his BS and MA from Georgia Southern University. He became the Band Director for Greensboro, GA High School. Later he went to work for the Seaboard Coastline (now CSX) and retired as an Engineer in 1999. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Retired Railroad Men's Club. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, love of family, love of music, original paintings and love of his many nieces and nephews. Surviving, in addition to his wife are: daughter, Laurie Walters of Louisville, GA, son, Mark Walters and wife, Syd of Florence; grandson, Samuel Walters; brother, Dr. Jerry C. Walters and wife, Kris of Augusta, GA; nephews, Lorne Walters and Ken Mekoska and niece Natalie Walters.
