Jane Mabrey Merriman, 85, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Jane was born in Greenwood County, SC, a daughter of the late William Dudley Mabrey and Alice Smith Mabrey. She had a long career as a purchasing manager in the aluminum and steel industries. After retirement, she returned to work in both city and county government.

Jane loved meeting people and talking with everyone. She never met anyone that she could not find something in them to celebrate. While she was able, she was an avid bowler, a bingo player at the Leatherman Senior Center and a constant presence at the Florence Family YMCA where she walked and enjoyed meeting and talking with staff and friends. Jane was a remarkable woman, caring and loving wife, and a wonderful mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian D. Merriman, and her sister, Doris C. Greer.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Kenneth E. Merriman of Florence; her daughter, Mabrey M. Matherly of Richmond Virginia; her sister, Joan C. Herin of Greenwood, SC; and six grandchildren, Kenneth Matherly, Josie Matherly, Erica Britenburg Martin, Jordan Britenburg, Morgan Merriman, and Alexis Merriman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Family YMCA, 1700 S. Rutherford Dr., Florence, SC 29505 and McLeod Hospice Foundation, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29505.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, 512 West 2nd Loop Rd. Florence, SC 29505.
