James Julian Myers, 68, of Clio, SC, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Mr. Myers was born in Thomasville, NC, a son of the late Otis William Myers, Sr. and Sue Kilby Myers. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to receive his Master's in Education from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Myers started teaching in the public schools in Maxton, NC and later moved to Clio, SC where he was the Assistant Principal and Principal of Clio Elementary School. He went on to become the Principal of Bennettsville Middle School and was most recently the Assistant Superintendent of Marlboro County Schools. Mr. Myers was instrumental in the formation of the School of Discovery in Marlboro County. He was a member of Trinity UMC in Clio, SC, where he was also a member of the Men's Club. He was active in the Marlboro Arts Council and he served on the Clio City Council. Mr. Myers loved traveling, cooking, and eating good food. He was a collector of the arts and music. Surviving are a son, Aaron (Joyce) Larkins of Stone Mountain, GA; three grandchildren, Julian, Kennedy, and Kerington Larkins all of Stone Mountain , GA; two brothers, Bill (Kathy) Myers of Charlotte, NC and Tom (Jane) Myers of Raleigh, NC; a sister , Beverly Myers of Thomasville, NC; five nieces and nephews, Kim (Kevin) Sprague of Huntersville, NC, Susan Ervin of Cornelius, NC, Bryan (Amber) Myers of Cary, NC, Elisa (Jamie) Pearson of Newbury, England, and Laura Myers of Raleigh, NC; and four great nieces and nephews, Connor Myers of Cary, NC, Mackenzie Ervin of Cornelius, NC, Clayton and Garrett Sprague both of Huntersville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clio, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
