Obituary

James Mark Smith, 57, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021.  He was born in San Antonio, TX, a son of the late James L. Smith, Jr. and Barbara Willard Smith.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a step-daughter, Amber Srutkowski.

Mark loved his country and was a retired US Army Medic, having served in Iraq.  After retirement from the Army, he worked with Honda and then as a CNA at Carolinas Hospital in the ER.  He was an avid music lover and enjoyed diamond painting.  Mark loved horseback riding as therapy.  He would give the shirt off his back for anyone and was always happy.

Surviving is his wife of 11 years, Dawn Myers Smith; a son, James Robert Smith; step-son, Robert Reese Kirven; a brother, James Michael "Mike" Smith (Rebecca); and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Florence National Cemetery.  You are invited to stop by the funeral home on Monday, February 15, 2021, between the hours of 1:00 to 5:00 PM to pay respects to Mark (the family will not be present).

Due to COVID-19, face coverings will be required at the funeral home and the National Cemetery.
