Obituary

James Daniel "Danny" McElveen, 57, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025 with his family by his side.

Mr. McElveen was born in Florence, SC a son of Sharon Marie Cannady Byrd and the late James Allen McElveen.  Danny believed in his Lord and Savior, was a hard worker, loved fishing, loved his dogs, and his state of South Carolina.  He worked as a home improvements contractor for many years and loved listening to AFR 90.5 Christian Station.  He adored his children, was very proud of the adults they became and thankful for his sons to have met the loves of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his father, and sister, Ashley Owens.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, his heart's desire, Angela Nicole Lee McElveen; daughters, Jessica Lynn (Sentell) Goodman and Megan Danielle (Robbie) Cromer; sons, Aubrey Nicolas (Mary Beth) McElveen and Darby James (Ally) McElveen; grandchildren, Madison, Chelsey, Logan, Bryson, and Nate; sister, Kristie (Steve) Gilreath; brother, Jim (Lisa) McElveen; brother-in-law, Ricky Owens; aunt, Peggy Carrasco; canine companions, Spade and Diesel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private family gathering will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Florence Area Humane Society for the Jayne Boswell Animal Shelter, 1434 S. McCurdy Road, Florence, SC 29506.

The family would like to thank the staff of MUSC NSICU, 4th floor hall for Rm #425 and Gentiva Hospice for their care and support in making "Mr. Danny" comfortable which allowed him to pass with dignity, respect and peace. The family would also like to thank everyone at Southside Baptist Church, friends, and co-workers for uplifting them in their thoughts, prayers, and gifts.

A special thank you to Cain Calcutt Funeral Home for their assistance with Danny's final wishes to help make this transition easier.
